Well, we’ve made it through another week!
I landed back in NC two weeks ago today. Time flies when you’re having fun! I accomplished some things I had hoped to and others are still on the list and that is ok. I’ve had a little time to connect/reconnect update some folks in my own life so I did that a bit this week. I’ve wrapped up my work with AWG. I’ve rebooked my return to Alaska ticket for Friday. I’ve made little progress on finding a dog walker. ( you would think that would not be so hard. I’ve been on rover and wag…to no avail. I have a lead on someone, cross your fingers. ) I’ve forwarded mail. I’ve made lists.
Yesterday’s Life Below Zero pizza party was going swell, until it wasn’t. The facility nurse came in 8 hours after mom’s fall exclaiming she had to go the ER and they had to call 911. Remember, mom refused medical transport at 7:30am and I was with her in the morning, and for the entire afternoon ( we were having a great visit! ) Does she have a speech impediment, yes. Does she have confusion, of course she had a stroke. Is she having mobility issues, uhm DUH. I was furious in the moment. Apparently this nurse has not been to see my mother, had a conversation or read her file. She ran off to call 911. All I could think is shit, now mom is never going to admit falling or say she bumped her head EVER to avoid all the commotion in the future, great. ( insert epic eye roll ) EMS showed up, they were 2 very kind, knowledgeable and compassionate guys. We talked, I was given the opportunity to refuse the transport and that is what I did, much to the shagrin of the nurse. She was only trying to CYA and I get that but we are new englanders at heart and I know my mother… I am aware of concussion protocols and I feel like I can use good judgement to make sound decisions.
Now, I understand we live in a litigious society and I don’t want to get into a debate here, that is not why I am keeping this journal… debating myself is well, ridiculous. And if anyone out there IS actually reading this I hope you are also finding the sarcasm and humor in my words.
So a lovey chat with the 2 kind EMS fellas and they were off after I signed that I did NOT want the medical transport.
Mom was exhausted… I got her to the bathroom and to bed. She took a snooze and I went back to the house. Time for a beer. Good night.
